Ali Ndume, the Chief Whip of the 10th Senate, asserted that former President Muhammadu Buhari lacked effective control over his administration compared to the incumbent President, Bola Tinubu.
Ndume highlighted that during Buhari’s eight-year tenure, he failed to actively manage and oversee the actions of his appointees. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the Senator expressed confidence in the 2024 budget presented to the National Assembly by Tinubu, stating his trust in the current president.
“I believe in President Tinubu, I think he can change things. The President here is in charge, that’s one thing with him. Sometimes people even think Tinubu is too authoritative. No, he takes charge; unlike our former President who would just give you an assignment and not supervise you. That’s where the problem is, and he knows that. That was the mistake President Buhari made,” Ndume remarked.
Ndume added that Buhari later admitted to the prevalence of what he referred to as kleptocrats in his government. “He (Buhari) ended up confessing these days that he had more kleptocrats in his government. I said it before, and now he admitted it that there were some kinds of people that took over power to themselves. But in Tinubu’s government, you can’t do that,” the senator asserted.
While expressing optimism about the nation’s prospects under Tinubu, Ndume appealed to Nigerians to give him a chance.
