Bola Tinubu, Nigeria’s “President-elect” as confirmed by the Independent National Electoral Commission, is reportedly heading to Europe for medical attention following his recent illness. The former Lagos State governor’s condition is said to have worsened after a strenuous election campaign that resulted in his victory and the build-up of tension preceding the March 18 governorship and House of Assembly elections in Lagos State, where he also cast his vote.
According to reliable sources, Bola Tinubu departed for Europe on Tuesday evening for medical treatment. The sources revealed that Tinubu became unwell after participating in the Lagos gubernatorial election on Saturday. Although he received medical attention from local doctors, Tinubu has traveled to Europe for better medical care.
Initially, Tinubu requested his doctors to come to Nigeria to attend to him, with the plan to travel abroad after things settle down. However, it has been confirmed that he left Nigeria on Tuesday evening because of his deteriorating health condition.
“Air flight tracking websites are unable to track the whereabouts of Bola Tinubu’s Falcon 9X plane, which has the registration number VP-CBT.”
We attempted to track the flight of Tinubu’s Falcon 9X plane, but the efforts proved unsuccessful, with a message stating that the owner/operator of the aircraft requested that it not be available for public tracking. Tinubu had cast his vote in the Lagos gubernatorial election on Saturday and shared photos of himself voting on his Instagram page, urging Nigerians to vote peacefully.
In February, a video circulated on social media showing Tinubu with what appeared to be urine stains on his clothing during a visit to the Awujale of Ijebuland. The video showed Tinubu standing to give a speech while his clothing was visibly wet from behind, particularly around the buttocks area. One of his security aides was observed holding his nose while looking at the wet area, and another person immediately put on a face mask as Tinubu rose to speak.
The recent news of Tinubu’s travels for medical treatment has raised concerns over his health status ahead of the presidential election. SaharaReporters had previously reported that the politician spent more than four months receiving medical care in France, the United States, and the United Kingdom for various surgeries between 2020 and 2022. He had left the country just before Christmas in 2020 to receive treatment in Paris, France, and returned to Nigeria on January 24, 2021. Tinubu also travelled to France for a medical check-up on June 10, 2021, and was absent from a one-day working visit of President Buhari to Lagos State. He was forced to return to Nigeria on June 15 amidst rumours of his death.
In July 2021, Tinubu was reportedly hospitalised in Maryland, United States, and underwent another knee surgery at the John Hopkins University Hospital in August. He then travelled to the United Kingdom on crutches, a few days after the surgery. It was reported that Tinubu had initially planned to undergo surgery in France but changed his plans due to rumours of his death. In August, President Buhari visited Tinubu in London, and the latter was seen with a walking stick, confirming reports of his second surgery in the United States.
Upon his return to Nigeria in October, Tinubu confirmed that he underwent surgery on his right knee and received post-surgery physiotherapy during his medical trip abroad. Recently, Tinubu returned to Nigeria after a ten-day trip to the United Kingdom for medical attention.
